Achievement Pathways
Achievement Pathways
The Achievement Pathways are the personal progression framework that we use to recognise personal development in the Scout program.
The achievement pathway is split into three sections:
- Program Essentials
- Outdoor Adventure Skills
- Special Interest Areas
Program Essentials
Program Essentials is about Scouts' active engagement in their Unit and Patrol's weekly Scout Program. We define Program Essential as the 'base camp' of all the aspects of the Achievement Pathways. Through active engagement Scouts are encourage to develop new skills and take on new challenges, and through this they will be recognised for their learning and development. It is important to remember as Scouts we aim to develop active citizens in the community, reflecting our SPICES and fulfilling the Purpose of Scouting.
Outdoor Adventure Skills
Outdoor Adventure Skills are the link between adventurous activities and the youth program. They enable youth members of all ages to access the basic skills for a range of activities, and progress through to high skill levels across nine broad activity areas. The core skill areas are what is often viewed as ‘key Scouting skills’ and are encouraged for all sections, whilst the specialist skill areas offer diversity of choice.
Special Interest Areas
Special Interest Areas encourage young people to try new things and pursue their existing interests. Scouts set their own goals, enabling them to design a project that interests and challenges them personally. The six areas are broad, encouraging Scouts to pursue a diversity of interests and to ensure any activity a Scout could possibly think of can be covered. Individuals setting their own goals ensures that the Special Interest Areas remain modern and relevant in a changing world, and can be tailored to be inclusive to all.
Peak Award
To achieve the Peak Award for your section, you need to achieve a certain level across the Program Essentials, Outdoor Adventure Skills and Special Interest Areas. You will also need to attend a leadership or personal development course (not Joeys), complete an adventurous journey and a personal reflection of your journey within the section. The mountain diagrams below show the requirements for the Peak Award.
